Looking to earn academic credit while making a global impact? Great news—many of our volunteers just like you do just that! While we don’t issue academic credit directly, you can receive credit through your college or university by setting up an independent study or internship with your academic advisor or department. Every school has its own guidelines for awarding credit, so it's important to begin this process early.

Customized Learning for Your Major
Students from over 150 universities across the U.S. and Canada have successfully earned academic or internship credit by participating in programs like this one. Whether you’re studying nursing, global-health, environmental science, business, the arts, etc.—independent study is a flexible, professor-guided course tailored to your interests and academic goals.
You and your advisor design the course. We provide the structure.

Note: Our leadership team will evaluate all components of your project (except the paper) and submit feedback directly to your advisor.
💵 Fee: $100 USD covers access to the course syllabus, evaluation by your HELP2SERVE.CARE directors and grade reporting by PHD prepared leadership.
There’s no hard deadline, but we strongly recommend starting the process early—well before your departure. If you're planning to earn credit, notify us on your application or via email (ideally at least 120 days and no less than 60 days before your program of choice departure date) so we can factor that your potential placement.
That’s determined by your school. Your advisor or department sets the credit value based on your coursework and school policy.
Start with your academic advisor, a faculty member in your department, or an administrator who oversees internships or independent study courses.
Download and review the Guidelines for Independent Study & Field Courses at your academic institution. Share it with your advisor during meeting to help explain our the HELP2SERVE.CARE immersion programs may count toward credit at your institution.

Yes. While you’ll engage deeply with health related topics, experimental research involving humans or animals is not permitted. Observational projects and reflective learning are encouraged. Email us if you have specific questions.
If you’re using a custom course designed with your advisor, your Project Leader can still provide an evaluation that may require a fee. Let us know your requirements or if a form needs to be complete.
